Scott died of alcoholic poisoning on 19/2/1980 with former Geordie lead singer Brian Johnson (born 5/10/1947, Newcastle-upon-Tyne) his replacement.

Simon Wright replaced Rudd in 1985 and when he left to join Dio in 1989, Chris Slade took his place.

They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.
